At technical wholesaler Delftechniek you will find everything in the field of tools, safety and supplies for industry, construction, shipping, installation technology and agriculture. Delftechniek has over 40 years of experience, a wide range of brands and 50,000 items in stock. With twelve branches, expert advice is never far away.
Delftechniek ran for years on the OpenCart system, but it was outdated and was cracking on all sides. Further development was actually not possible on this platform. Therefore, a broader view was taken and the choice was made to work with Magento Open Source.
Elgentos was chosen based on the open and honest discussions where elgentos' expertise in both technical and B2B areas was decisive.
The old website was pretty slow, so speed was a big focus. Of course, we immediately decided to use Hyvä, which allowed us to create a very fast site with little effort. Another challenge was to transfer the existing data, such as the customers, orders and product data.
Delftechniek is a wholesale company and thus has many business customers. For these business customers, Delftechniek wanted to add specific business-to-business functionality, such as different rights levels in the order flow, customer-specific pricing and an OCI Punchout link for large customers.
Delftechniek also wanted to improve the process of product data entry, and the management of content pages through a CMS also needed to be improved.
When modernizing Delftechniek's online presence, a fast and stable website was essential. To achieve this, it was decided to migrate the web shop to Magento Open Source, deploying Hyvä theme technology. Hyvä offers a lightweight, efficient front-end that significantly improves the website's load time. This choice immediately delivered a noticeable gain in speed, which was crucial given the high expectations of business customers.
Data Migration
One of the biggest challenges was the migration of the existing data. The customer database, orders, and extensive product information had to be accurately and completely transferred to the new platform. This process was carefully planned and executed to ensure that no data was lost and that all customer data was correct after the migration. We also made sure that the passwords were transferred from OpenCart to Magento so that the customers did not have to reactivate their accounts with a new password.
B2B functionalities
Given the business nature of Delftechniek, there was a strong focus on developing B2B-specific functionalities. For example, so-called company accounts were implemented, allowing different employees of one customer organization with different rights to place and approve orders. In addition, a customer-specific pricing system was set up so that each company sees the prices negotiated for them. These prices are extracted from Delftechniek's ERP. For large customers, an OCI Punchout integration was added, allowing them to place orders directly from their own system into Delftechniek's Web shop. This increases efficiency and improves customer satisfaction.
Integrations
Given the large product range and complexity of business processes, it was essential to realize seamless integrations with Delftechniek's existing systems. For example, a link was established with the ERP system (AGP Trade from Kerridge Commercial Systems) so that inventories and prices are always up-to-date. The integration with BarTrack ensured accurate bar code registration and inventory management. You can read more about the link with BarTrack on this page. In addition, a PIM link with Skwirrel was set up to streamline and centralize the management of product information. This allows Delftechniek to quickly and efficiently manage and update product data, which is crucial for their extensive product range.
Hyvä React Checkout
To further optimize the user experience, the decision was made to implement the Hyvä React Checkout. This fast and user-friendly checkout provides a smooth and fast checkout process, which not only increases the conversion rate, but also reduces the number of abandoned shopping carts.
CMS and Content Management
Finally, attention was paid to improving content management. The new CMS system, which is integrated into Magento, makes it easier for Delftechniek to manage and modify content pages without technical knowledge. This adds to the flexibility of the platform and allows Delftechniek to respond quickly to changes and customer requests.
Implementation
The implementation of these solutions was carried out in a phased process, working closely with Delftechniek and the third parties involved. The migration from OpenCart to Magento Open Source took six months, with great emphasis placed on minimal downtime and a smooth transition. During the process, regular testing was conducted to ensure that everything was functioning properly and that the user experience remained optimal.
By combining a fast site, seamless data migration, advanced B2B functionalities, and strong integrations with existing systems, Delftechniek now has a future-proof online environment that matches their growth strategy and customer expectations.
