Delftechniek

At the technical wholesaler Delftechniek, you will find everything in the field of tools, safety and supplies for industry, construction, shipping, installation technology and agriculture. Delftechniek has over 40 years of experience, a wide range of brands, and 50,000 items in stock. With twelve locations, expert advice is never far away.

Delftechniek had been running on the OpenCart system for years, but it was outdated and falling apart on all sides. Further development was actually not possible on this platform. Therefore, broader options were considered and the choice was made to work with Magento Open Source.

The choice for elgentos was made based on the open and honest conversations where elgentos's expertise in both technical and B2B fields was decisive.

Challenges & set goals

The old website was quite slow, so speed was a major focus. We immediately decided to use Hyvä, allowing us to set up a very fast site with little effort. Another challenge was to transfer the existing data, such as customers, orders, and product data.

Delftechniek is a wholesaler and therefore has many business customers. Delftechniek wanted to add specific business-to-business functionalities for these business customers, such as different rights levels in the order flow, customer-specific pricing, and an OCI Punchout link for large customers.

Delftechniek also wanted to improve the process of entering product data and to enhance the management of content pages through a CMS.

Solution & Implementation

In modernizing Delftechniek's online presence, a fast and stable website was essential. To achieve this, it was decided to migrate the webshop to Magento Open Source, utilizing Hyvä theme technology. Hyvä offers a lightweight, efficient front-end that significantly improves website load times. This choice immediately resulted in a noticeable speed gain, which was crucial given the high expectations of business customers.

Data Migration

One of the biggest challenges was migrating the existing data. The customer database, orders, and detailed product information had to be accurately and completely transferred to the new platform. This process was carefully planned and executed to ensure no data was lost and that all customer information was correct after migration. We also ensured that passwords from OpenCart were transferred to Magento, so customers did not need to reactivate their account with a new password.

B2B Functionalities

Given the business nature of Delftechniek, there was a strong focus on developing B2B-specific functionalities. For instance, company accounts were implemented, allowing different employees of one client organization to place and approve orders with different rights. Additionally, a system for customer-specific pricing was set up so that each company sees the prices negotiated for them. These prices are pulled from Delftechniek's ERP. For large customers, an OCI Punchout integration was added, enabling them to place orders directly from their own system into Delftechniek's webshop. This increases efficiency and improves customer satisfaction.

Integrations

Given the large product range and complexity of business processes, seamless integrations with Delftechniek's existing systems were essential. A connection was made with the ERP system (AGP Trade from Kerridge Commercial Systems) to keep inventories and prices up-to-date at all times. The integration with BarTrack provided accurate barcode registration and inventory management. You can read more about the connection with BarTrack on this page. Additionally, a PIM link with Skwirrel was set up to streamline and centralize product information management. This allows Delftechniek to quickly and efficiently manage and update product data, which is crucial for their extensive range.

Hyvä React Checkout

To further optimize the user experience, the implementation of the Hyvä React Checkout was chosen. This fast and user-friendly checkout ensures a smooth and quick checkout process, not only increasing the conversion rate but also reducing the number of abandoned shopping carts.

CMS and Content Management

Finally, attention was paid to improving content management. The new CMS system, integrated into Magento, makes it easier for Delftechniek to manage and adjust content pages without technical knowledge. This contributes to the platform's flexibility and allows Delftechniek to quickly respond to changes and customer requests.

Implementation

The implementation of these solutions was carried out in a phased process, working closely with Delftechniek and the third parties involved. The migration from OpenCart to Magento Open Source took six months, with a strong emphasis on minimal downtime and a smooth transition. During the process, regular tests were conducted to ensure everything functioned properly and that the user experience remained optimal.

By combining a fast site, seamless data migration, advanced B2B functionalities, and strong integrations with existing systems, Delftechniek now has a future-proof online environment that aligns with their growth strategy and customer expectations.
